Inside the 2025 LA Auto Show: Restorations, New Models, and the Future of Automotive Innovation
Walking into the 2025 LA International Auto Show, I was reminded why this event remains one of the most exciting stops for anyone who loves cars. Innovation, nostalgia, and cutting-edge technology all collide under one roof and this year delivered something special across every corner of the show floor.
One of the most unforgettable moments was seeing the restored 1977 VW bus that survived the devastating Palisade fires. After 2,000 hours of work and more than 900 replacement parts, Volkswagen unveiled the fully restored bus to its owner. Watching the reveal felt emotional not just because of the craftsmanship, but because VW blended the past and future by showcasing it alongside the new ID Buzz. The connection between heritage and modern electric design couldn’t have been more fitting.
The show also highlighted standout vehicles making headlines for their performance and design. The VW GTI earned Motor Trend’s Car of the Year for the third time, continuing its legacy as a driver’s favorite. VW also brought major updates to the Tiguan, boosting its power from 201 to 268 horsepower and securing its spot as one of the top SUVs of the year. Subaru impressed with its updated Outback lineup, including a tech-rich interior, a significantly larger center screen, and the Wilderness edition built for true off-road capability.
Nissan showed up strong this year, too. The new Rogue PHEV might be one of the most practical plug-in hybrids debuted at the show, offering a 38-mile electric range and excellent fuel economy for everyday driving. Nissan also refreshed the Pathfinder with smart design updates and celebrated the Leaf being named a finalist for North American Utility of the Year a major milestone for one of the industry’s longest-running EVs.
And of course, no LA Auto Show would be complete without a celebration of American automotive culture. Ford delivered exactly that with an immersive Mustang experience highlighting the car’s iconic history. The exhibit built up to the debut of the new Mustang GTD, a track-focused machine already setting records at the Nürburgring and redefining what the Mustang name can mean in the modern performance world.
From classic restorations to groundbreaking electrified models, the 2025 LA Auto Show felt like a peek into where the industry is heading an exciting mix of heritage, horsepower, and high-tech innovation. Whether you’re a performance enthusiast, an EV adopter, or someone who simply loves great design, this year’s show had something to get excited about.
