It’s annoying but true: today’s appliances do not last like the old ones did. For busy families, the need to keep fixing or buying new ones creates big stress.

We just paid to fix our dryer. The repairman, an older guy, shared a key fact. He said he rarely fixes old appliances because they keep working.

This week, our 8-year-old fridge died. That pushed me to write this piece!

Now, most of his jobs involve machines just a few years old. This shows a clear problem. People lack repair skills, so they buy new ones every five years or less.

Here are 24 common home appliances that break too soon, plus tips to make them last longer.

Do your appliances fail quicker than you think? Do you fix or replace them? Tell us in the comments!

Vacuum Cleaners
