The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid arrives with the kind of mid-cycle update that matters more in daily life than in a parking-lot walkaround. The styling changes are modest, but electric range, power, cabin usability and driving hardware all get meaningful attention.
The headline number is 45 miles of all-electric range, up from 38 miles last year. Mitsubishi also raises total system output to 297 horsepower and says efficiency improves to 73 MPGe. That moves the Outlander PHEV closer to being an electric commuter during the week without turning a weekend road trip into a charging plan.
Pricing starts at $43,245 before a $1,745 destination charge. Every version includes Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control and an occasional-use third row, giving this PHEV a useful mix of electric driving, all-weather traction and family flexibility.

More Electric Range Changes the Daily Math
Battery capacity grows from 20 kWh to 22.7 kWh, while a new cooling system improves thermal management and allows the battery to deliver more power. Mitsubishi says combined gasoline-and-electric range remains 420 miles, even though the fuel tank shrinks to 14 gallons to make room for the larger battery.
That 45-mile EV figure matters because a plug-in hybrid only saves fuel when owners actually plug it in. For drivers with home charging and predictable commutes, the Outlander can cover a larger share of school runs, errands and work trips without starting the gasoline engine.

Charging is flexible, if not cutting-edge. Mitsubishi quotes about 16.5 hours on a 120-volt Level 1 connection, 6.5 hours on Level 2, and about 29 minutes to reach 80% on equipped models using CHAdeMO DC fast charging. Regenerative braking can also be adjusted with the steering-wheel paddles while remaining in EV mode.

The Outlander PHEV uses an electric motor at each axle, with the rear wheels driven entirely by electricity. That layout supports standard Super-All Wheel Control, while the gasoline engine and hybridized front drive system handle longer-distance work when needed.

The Cabin Fixes May Matter More Than the Horsepower
Mitsubishi’s interior changes are unusually practical. The center armrest storage grows by 45%, the cupholders move forward beside the shifter and are designed for two 44-ounce cups, and the wireless charging pad has been reshaped to keep phones more securely positioned.

A standard 12.3-inch center display joins a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while Yamaha supplies either an eight-speaker or available 12-speaker audio system. Select trims add cooled front seats, and additional sound deadening is intended to make the cabin quieter. The third row remains best viewed as occasional seating, but it gives the Outlander flexibility most compact PHEVs do not offer.
The 2026 lineup includes ES, SE, SEL and a new Black Edition. Mitsubishi also backs new vehicles with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for the original owner, a five-year/60,000-mile new-vehicle warranty and two years or 30,000 miles of included maintenance.
