The Ford Carhartt Super Duty
The Ford Carhartt Super Duty brings authentic workwear toughness into one of the most capable heavy-duty trucks on the market. Duck canvas-inspired seating, signature triple stitching, and a tightly integrated color and texture story make this truck stand out for people who use their trucks hard every day.
Bhavna Mistry, senior designer with the Ford Customization Group, led color, texture, and materials development for the entire vehicle inside and out. We spoke with her about turning Carhartt DNA into a Super Duty that respects the hardworking customers who buy these trucks.

Translating Carhartt Workwear Into Truck Seats That Last
The biggest challenge was making the interior instantly recognizable as Carhartt while still delivering the comfort and durability a Super Duty owner expects. “We wanted to bring the iconic duck canvas and we also wanted it to be recognizable,” Mistry said, explaining the team’s mission to capture the brand’s workwear heritage without compromising comfort or durability.
“I wanted to get that feeling. I wanted that construction. I wanted that rugged durability for this customer, but I also want them to feel comfortable when they’re sitting in the car.” – Bhavna Mistry
That wasn’t as easy as simply taking the duck canvas used by Carhartt and putting it on the seats. “”It’s one thing to wear the canvas jacket but it’s another thing to sit on,” said Mistry. The texture and the look weren’t quite right for the sets.
Multiple seat prototypes, including some with an unaltered duck canvas, were created and tested in the quest to find the one that was perfect. The final material marries the tough texture of duck canvas with a softer, heathered, oil-waxed fabric. It blends the Carhartt aesthetic with the reality of work truck life.

From Grandfather’s Forge to the Heart of a Super Duty
This was more than just another project for Mistry, as the meaning of her last name is a part of the story. “It basically means I come from a community of people who worked with wood, whether they were carpenters or sculptors,” she said.
Designing this truck connects to generations of woodworkers and blacksmiths in Mistry’s family. Her grandfather’s blacksmith shop left a lasting impression from childhood visits. “I have a vivid memory of going to his workshops. I was fascinated as little child, when you see the red jewel-like sparks flying through as the hammer hit the red-hot metal.” she said
“This project was like paying homage to my grandfather.” – Bhavna Mistry
She poured that respect for hard work and perseverance into every surface of the Carhartt Ford Super Duty. The project became a full-circle moment especially because her grandfather passed away a couple of years ago. Mistry had yet to share news of the project with her mother when we spoke, but the chances there were happy tears when she did are high.

Engineering the Details That Make This Truck Special
The team achieved several firsts for Ford including using triple stitching pulled directly from Carhartt jackets. They engineered the fabric for superior soil repellence as well, so spills bead up for up to 30 minutes. “It has way more abrasion resistance as well,” said Mistry. “So if you toss in your tools or something, it’s not going to snag.”
“The one thing I’m very proud of is the color story of the whole thing. Everything works together.” – Bhavna Mistry
Mistry tied the entire vehicle together by pulling the same colors and textures throughout the truck. The tarnished, dark anodized color on the wheels and grille are paired with the color on the seats for a unique two-tone graphic. The same texture from the floor mats appears behind the reflective fender badge logo. It was all about creating a cohesive look.
