Deal of the Week: Mazda CX-90 PHEV at 0%

This Mazda CX-90 PHEV deal offers 0% APR for 72 months, but the smartest choice may depend on whether $5,000 cash saves more.

Six years without interest is the sort of offer that deserves a calculator before it earns a victory lap. Mazda is advertising 0% APR for 72 months on new 2026 CX-90 PHEV models through Mazda Financial Services, plus the possibility of waiting as long as 90 days for the first payment.

That is a serious incentive on a 323-horsepower, three-row plug-in hybrid with standard all-wheel drive. Yet Mazda is also dangling $5,000 in customer cash. The small print makes the choice clearer: the cash is offered in lieu of Mazda’s special APR or lease programs. You get the free money or the free financing, not both.

The Preferred trim starts at $50,695. Add the current $1,645 destination charge and the opening figure becomes $52,340 before options, taxes, title, registration, origination charges and dealer fees. Mazda prices Premium Sport from $55,500 and Premium Plus from $58,700, with the delivery charge excluded from both figures.

Mazda’s stated factor is $13.89 per month per $1,000 financed. Borrowing the Preferred’s full $52,340 delivered starting price for 72 months produces a payment of about $727 a month before the extras. Zero down is permitted in the manufacturer’s example, although approval and any credit-based requirement remain part of the real transaction.

The delayed first installment is useful breathing room, not a price cut. Mazda says finance charges continue during the deferral; a qualifying 0% contract simply has no interest to accumulate. The offer is for very well-qualified applicants, dealer participation and stock are required, and delivery must occur by Sept. 30, 2026.

An auto loan should be compared by total cost as well as payment. A six-year term can otherwise disguise an expensive deal behind an agreeable monthly number. Here the promotional rate removes that usual interest penalty, but it cannot protect you from an inflated sale price or unwanted add-ons.

The Plug-In Question Matters More Than the Badge

The CX-90’s 17.8-kWh battery supplies an EPA-estimated 26 miles of electric driving. Its label shows 56 MPGe in combined electric-and-gasoline operation, a measurement intended to compare energy use across fuels rather than promise 56 mpg after the battery is depleted.

Twenty-six electric miles can cover a useful daily commute if the vehicle is charged routinely. Access to overnight Level 2 charging makes the ownership case stronger, although this PHEV can continue on gasoline when the stored energy is used. Buyers who rarely plug in will carry the price and weight of a battery without collecting as much of its benefit.

This is why the financing headline should not choose the powertrain for you. A family with a home charger, a short weekday routine and longer weekend trips may use the CX-90 exactly as intended. Someone without convenient charging should compare conventional hybrids and Mazda’s less expensive inline-six CX-90 before committing.

What the Money Buys

The PHEV’s gasoline engine and electric motor produce 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet on Mazda’s recommended premium fuel. Every version receives all-wheel drive, EV, Sport and Off-Road modes, and a towing limit of up to 3,500 pounds when fitted with the specified Mazda accessories.

Preferred is not a penalty-box base trim. Its seven-seat layout uses a second-row bench, while standard equipment includes 21-inch wheels, heated first- and second-row seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 12.3-inch center display and six USB-C ports. That makes it the cleanest value match for the promotional payment.

Premium Sport adds the darker appearance package, available captain’s chairs, a Bose system, head-up display and a useful 1,500-watt outlet in the cargo area. Premium Plus answers with Nappa leather, adaptive lighting, a 360-degree monitor and extra crash-avoidance technology. The more equipment you add, the more important it becomes to compare the final principal rather than celebrate the rate.

If you can pay cash, taking $5,000 off is the straightforward choice. With outside financing, the answer depends on its rate. Subtracting the incentive from the $52,340 base illustration leaves $47,340. Across 72 equal payments, an outside loan at roughly 3.36% APR is the break-even point against financing all $52,340 at 0%, assuming identical selling prices and no added borrowing fees.

A rate below that estimate favors the rebate on pure loan cost; a higher rate generally makes Mazda’s interest-free contract stronger. Different down payments, terms and taxes change the result, so treat 3.36% as a comparison tool rather than a personal quote.

Ask for the out-the-door price in writing before allowing the conversation to drift toward a trade-in or monthly target. Then request two worksheets for the same VIN: one using the promotional APR and one using customer cash. Confirm the incentive, dealer discount, fees, amount financed and total of payments on each.

The Deal of the Week verdict is favorable, with conditions. Six interest-free years on this much SUV is genuinely aggressive. It becomes an excellent purchase only when the CX-90 PHEV fits your charging life, the dealer preserves a competitive selling price, and your calculator—not the showroom excitement—selects the winning incentive.
